ACT RHETORIC
MACRO LOGIC:
Macro-logic is the skill of putting the parts of an essay in the right order. The large sections (sentences, paragraphs, chapters, etc.) of a work should be organized logically, and tangents should be avoided.
The ACT test items will usually offer many clues as to the structure or order that needs to be corrected.

Identify which sentence in the following paragraph is logically in the wrong place. Where should the sentence be moved?
[1] Jerry wore his hat like a crown, but it really didn't fit him at all. [2] He was understandably proud of it. [3] Nothing anyone said about it's age, stains, or precarious balance would dissuade him from plopping it atop his head each time he left the house. [4] Behind his back, we all made fun of him mercilessly. [5] The hat had been given to him in commemoration of his first golf tournament victory.
ANSWER: Sentence 5 is out of place. Logically, it should be placed after sentence 1 or, maybe, sentence 2.
