ACT GRAMMAR
IDIOM RULES:
An idiom is an expression that means something different than the actual literal meaning, such as "raining cats and dogs" or "kick the bucket;" but “idiom” also refers to short phrases made of words that almost always go together. Like the verb/preposition rules found here, the ACT tests knowledge of these common phrases.
RULE: Misuse of commonly used idioms rings wrong on the ear and confuses meaning.
